Governor Ted Strickland was sworn in on Monday, but he already faces three scheduled executions in January and February: Kenneth Biros on January 23, James Filiaggi on February 13, and Christopher Newton on February 27.
Contact Governor Strickland today! Urge him to conduct a thorough study of our troubled death penalty and to suspend executions until the study is completed.
Did you know?
* In 2006, Ohio came in second, only to Texas, in the number of people the state executed.
* In December 2006, three states - Florida, Maryland and California - each ordered a halt to all executions while they examine problems with lethal injection.
* Illinois and New Jersey both have a formal moratorium on all
executions while their entire death penalty systems are studied. New Jersey's study commission issued a report on January 2, 2007 recommending abolition of their death penalty.
* Illinois continued its moratorium on all executions for the seventh
year.
* Both North Carolina and California have begun legislative studies of their death penalty system.
* Nationwide, support for the death penalty has been on a steady decline, and 2006 saw the fewest executions in ten years.
