Death date set for killer Execution for Youngstown man set July 26, 2012 An execution date was set for a city man who has been on death row for 23 years after he was convicted of killing a convenience store owner in 1986. The Ohio Supreme Court set the date of execution for John Eley, 62, who was convicted of killing Ihsan Aydah on Aug. 26, 1986. He will be executed July 26, 2012, unless Gov. John Kasich grants clemency. A date for the clemency hearing has not yet been set, but is typically about a month before the scheduled execution, an Ohio Department of Corrections spokesperson said. Eley would become the fifth person executed from Mahoning County since 1999, when the state reinstated the death penalty after a 27-year hiatus.
