Cleveland man featured in Dispatch DNA series released from prison A Cleveland man convicted of murdering an elderly woman more than a decade ago was released from prison this afternoon. The Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office dismissed the murder case against David Ayers, but reserves the right to reinstate murder, robbery and burglary charges against him if new evidence surfaces. Common Pleas Judge Nancy Margaret Russo did not declare Ayers a wrongly convicted or innocent man during a hearing just after noon today, but one of his attorneys says the case is clear. “He was wrongly convicted and is innocent. Period,” Robert Tobik, chief county public defender, said after the hearing. More; www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2011/09/12/Cleveland-man-released.html
