Execution of Reginald Brooks Scheduled for Nov. 15, 2011
See an urgent action from OTSE below-
We still hope that Gov. Kasich will commute Mr. Brooks execution but we are also preparing in case that doesn't happen.
There is no prayer service scheduled on Monday evening. We will ask that a moment of prayer be observed at Sr. Helen's talk at Moeller High School.
The IJPC carpool will leave at 6:00 AM from Peaslee Neighborhood Center. We will be leaving promptly. Our cars will return to Cincinnati after the execution. Call Sr. Alice at 513-579-8547 to reserve a place.
Below is information about a bus leaving from Moeller High School and continuing on to Columbus. There is space on the bus - just arrive at Moeller before 6:00 to claim a spot.
November 15th to Lucasville vigil/Columbus
9001 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati 45236
6:00 AM at Archbishop Moeller High School
Bus will depart from Moeller bound for Columbus via Lucasville. Bus will return to Cincinnati by approximately 6:00 PM.
Urgent action alert: call on Governor Kasich to stop execution
Please contact Governor Kasich by phone today and urge him to stop the execution of Reginald Brooks.
Last week the Ohio Parole Board unanimously rejected clemency for Mr. Brooks, who was convicted of killing his three sons as they slept in 1982. Reginald Brooks has a documented history of mental illness
A federal judge upheld changes made to Ohio’s execution protocol last week putting the final decision squarely on the shoulders of Governor John Kasich.
Governor Kasich will make his decision at a time when Ohio’s death penalty is being closely examined by a joint task force commissioned by the Ohio Supreme Court.
Make your call to the Governor today at 614-466-3555.
Tell Governor Kasich that no one should be executed under a system while the very system is under review to assess fairness and accuracy.
Please encourage the governor to issue a moratorium on all executions while the review is taking place.
