Governor Kasich has denied clemency for Brett Hartman. Brett’s lawyers are filing an appeal with the US Supreme Court but we must consider Tuesday, Nov. 13 as a real execution date even as we continue to work and pray to stop it.
A prayer service for Brett Hartman, his family, friends and lawyers, Winda Snipes, the victim of the crime, and her family, Gov. Kasich, the prison team and all involved in this case will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, Nov. 12 at Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church, 103 Wm Howard Taft Rd., Cincinnati.
A carpool will form at 6:30 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 13 to go to Lucasville for the witness outside the penitentiary. Call Sr. Alice 513-579-8547 to reserve a space or to volunteer to drive.
Parishioners of Bellarmine Chapel and Xavier students invite you to join them as they take time out on Nov. 13 at 10:00 AM for a brief vigil in the chapel at the time of execution to pray for the victim, Winda Snipes, for her family and the Hartmann family, and for mercy and compassion in a spirit of redemption and restorative justice.
Brett Hartmann was sentenced to death in Ohio on May 22, 1998 for the murder of Winda Snipes in Summit County, though questions have persisted then and now about unexamined facts and evidence related to possible innocence.

Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church is hosting a showing of Brett’s Art. The opening reception is this Sunday, Nov. 11 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Brett has requested that proceeds from the sale of his painting go to University Project Learning Center, an alternative school for students with behavioral and academic challenges.
A flier about the art show is available on the ijpc website ijpc-cincinnati.org. Please spread the word.
