On 08-13-2007 the Dutch newspaper "Parool" placed an article about Brett's case and the benefit concert:
Concert for man on death row USA Woman from Amsterdam hopes for new trial
The American Brett Hartmann(33) is waiting in a cel on the death penalty. The Dutch Nadin Simbula is fighting for his release. A benefit concert in the Heineken Music Hall is supposed to bring enough money to keep up the fight.
On 10 September 1997 Hartmann found the body of Winda Snipes. She was stabbed over a 130 times, her throat was cut en her hands were removed. Hartmann called the alarm number. Because he came in contact with the body and a bloody shirt was found, the jury was convinced of his guilt and gave him the death penalty.
Simbula, who writes with him, became convinced about his innocence. Through her website she asks Dutch people to donate money. In January she wants to organize a huge concert in the Heineken Music Hall. "When 5000 people buy a ticket of 25 Euro, we have enough money to hire an investigator to find new evidence to proove his innocence. This would give Hartmann a good change."
Simbula says that the band Di-rect has agreed to perform and also Ali B wants to help out." I want attention for this injustice in the United States. And also the situation on death row is inhumane."
