on 08-15-2007 the tv-program "Een Vandaag" placed an article on their website. They allowed me to write the article myself. The video of Diane and a picture of Brett were added with the article.

The fight for Brett’s life.
To the state Ohio Brett Hartmann is a number. Number 357869. To me Brett is a good friend with a great sense of humour who stays positive despite his situation.
In September Brett will be innocent on deathrow in Ohio USA for 10 years.
When Brett was 23 years old his life turned into a nightmare. He found a friend dead in her house.
He tried to turn her around en then saw that she was murdered, Brett panicked and went away. He called 911 and talked to the police. He fully cooperated with the investigation and agreed to have his house searched. But still they arrested him. The trial was a charade. When you have little or no money you get an attorney appointed to you who works on several cases at the same time and cannot give the case his full attention. As was with Brett’s attorney. His attorney relied on the prosecutors case and didn’t do any investigation for the defense. He didn’t even bring evidence forward that could clear Brett. Afterwards gotten policedocuments prooved that several police officers lied during the trial. They told that there was no DNA or fingerprints found on the scene. In the policedocuments it is clearly stated that DNA and fingerprints were sent to the lab and compared. This was never brought forward during the trial, which can only mean that it wasn’t Brett’s DNA or fingerprints. Otherwise the prosecutor would have certainly used it against Brett. Brett had an alibi at the time of the murder. He was about 15 minutes away from the crime scene talking to a friend on the phone at his own home. The telephone bill could proove this. But still Brett was convicted and sentenced to death.
Brett is, along with his family and friends, fighting to proove his innocence. We are raising money to hire an investigator to find new evidence. If his case is not reopened, Brett can be executed. At January 26 there will be a benefit concert in Amsterdam for Brett and his freedom. On his site you can read his entire case and see the policedocuments. You can also read more about the benefit concert and what you can do to help. Go to www.freebretthartmann.nl
