OHIO SUPREME COURT SETS FIVE EXECUTION DATES The Ohio Supreme Court has set five execution dates, including one for a Stark County man convicted in a 1984 murder in Canton. Justices’ action Monday means David Sneed, James Derrick O’Neal, Elwood Hubert Jones, Archie Dixon and Timothy Hoffner join 16 other Death Row inmates awaiting their capital punishment. Sneed was sentenced to death for the murder of Herbert Rowan. According to documents, Sneed and an accomplice approached Rowan seeking a ride, then demanded money and shot Rowan in the head. The state’s high court set Sneed’s execution for Aug. 1, 2018, the first scheduled in that year. O’Neal, convicted in the 1993 murder of his estranged wife in Cincinnati, faces an Oct. 10, 2018, execution date. Jones, convicted in the 1994 killing of a Cincinnati-area hotel employee, faces a Jan. 9, 2019, execution date. Dixon and Hoffner beat and buried alive a 22-year-old Toledo man in 1993.
