rally at OSP, fundraising appeal
Saturday, June 21, 2:00-3:00 pm: demonstration next to the gates of Ohio State Penitentiary (OSP), where over 140 of Ohio's death row prisoners are incarcerated. The themes are: No more executions! Regular contact visits for prisoners with their loved ones - a hug should be a human right! Gather at the parking lot of One Hundred Twenty Church of God in Christ, 894 Coitsville-Hubbard Rd., Youngstown right next to OSP. There will be music, speeches, prayers and a balloon release. Banners and signs are welcome. Please bring folding chairs. Transportation is being organized from Cleveland. Call (216) 481-6671 or email pfcenter@sbcglobal. net. Sponsored by a coalition of prisoner advocacy groups including the Cleveland Lucasville 5 Defense Committee.
Fundraising appeal: from the Cleveland Lucasville 5 Defense Committee. Please help us out with the costs of mailing packets to the prisoners on our mailing list which includes all death row prisoners and about 100 others. We put 2-3 embossed (pre-stamped) envelopes in each packet and extra copies of the notices of events so they can let their family and friends know. We also keep them informed about the contact visit campaign, with such information as the warden of OSP wants "kites" (memos) from the prisoners if they are concerned about this issue. Prisoners also send them out to other prisoners. Each packet costs us a little over $3.00 so our recent mailing about the rally and the contact visit campaign cost nearly $900. Please help support this unique prisoner network and send $30 for 10 prisoner packets or $60 for 20 prisoner packets, etc. to: Cleveland Lucasville 5 Defense Committee, P.O. Box 5963, Cleveland, OH 44101.
