message from IJPC;
BRETT HARTMANN’S ART SHOW We had a very successful art show on September 5th for the extremely talented, Brett Hartmann, who is currently on Ohio’s death row. Thanks for all who helped with that!! Brett’s art will be displayed at the Peaslee until October 7th. Come check it out!! Carol, Brett’s Mother, wrote the following poem and brought it to the show:
I AM MOTHER – by Carol Parcell
Brett Hartmann is my only son And I couldn't’ be more proud He is a wonderful one
He lives on Ohio’s death row Which has actually allowed him to truly grow – From a happy, carefree, callow youth To a warm, wonderful man Can anyone understand?
I say out of all bad, comes something good But how do you measure loss of years To the unending tears? Do you hear my plea, do you hear my prayer?
He’s not guilty, it’s not fair – So death stalks me day by day Despair sits on my shoulder Barely being held at bay
Appeal they say Don’t worry we’ll appeal Month after month, year after year While down face slide the silent tears – that no one hears.
I repeat that old, old refrain “Truth and justice will prevail” But they hide out behind society’s veil While hate and revenge rule the day.
“Hate will out” I shout into the fray But no one listens And I pray.
No one hears the silent screams That bounce off the walls. No one sees the silent tears.
I am Mother! Will I live to see him free? I pray to God, please let it be I am Mother.
