Myspace bulletin;
Who is John Ash Amador that TX plans to kill next week?
If TX has its way, in 8 short days, on August 29th, the State will end the life of John ‘Ash’ Amador. First I have to tell you that to his friends, he is not John, John Joe, or John Amador. He is simply Ash and has been Ash for many years. And Ash is more than a death row inmate; he is a loving husband, a father, and a friend. Ash has a wife and two sons who love him dearly. These sons spend many hours on the road traveling each week or two as they make the 550 mile round-trip journey to see their dad. And since I have been with them during one of these visits, I can tell you that they love their dad and enjoy seeing him. He isn’t TDCJ Inmate #999160 to those boys; he is just Dad.
What has made the trip more interesting is that recently on the way home from visiting Ash, the family has made a couple of stops at the funeral home to make arrangements for Ash. While this may be a difficult task when we have a sick loved one, imagine what that duty is like when that loved one is full of life and health. I would say that Ash’s family is as much a victim as any victim of any violent crime. How do you tell a 13 year old boy that the state is going to kill his dad to show him that killing is wrong? If you can think of a way, please let me know as I never did answer that question when it was posed to me by the son of another death row friend, Arnold Prieto. It was through Arnold that I met Ash and his family and for that, I will always be grateful.
Please visit Ash’s page on my website where you can see him, his poetry and his paintings.
